Janis Umschlag

Manager of Angels’ Treasures Thrift Shop
Janis is the founder and manager of Angels’ Treasures Thrift Shop. Janis grew up in Flushing and Bayside, Queens, before moving to West Barnstable in 1975, following a period of living and working in New Haven, Connecticut. She spent many years as a Medical Technologist at Cape Cod Hospital, where she performed clinical analyses and eventually became Laboratory Manager, overseeing the Biology Department until her retirement in 2017. She concluded her career at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
A dedicated member of St. Mary’s since 1994, Janis has been deeply involved in parish life. She has coordinated numerous receptions, including the annual Thanksgiving Dinner and the monthly Taizé wine and cheese gatherings. She has led the Daffodil Tea since 1996 and managed the Holly Fair luncheon. Janis also taught Church School, participated in outreach efforts, and served on the Vestry as both Junior and Senior Warden.
Janis sings alto in the choir, serves as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and lector, and takes part in the Thursday Morning Book Group.
Outside of church, Janis enjoys refinishing furniture, cooking, reading, riding her E-bike, and working with an estate sale company.
