October 26, 2025 – Are you on a mission to make a difference this holiday season? Join us for St. Mary’s 16th Annual Thanksgiving “Turkeys for Cape Codders” program in partnership with the Community Action Committee of Cape Cod & The Islands (CAC). Each year, St. Mary’s parishioners and other community friends and partners provide up to 300 local families with a turkey and a grocery store gift card (for the fixings) so they may enjoy a bountiful and nutritious Thanksgiving meal.

“Many families living on Cape Cod cannot afford a delicious Thanksgiving meal like most of us enjoy,” says Judy Walden Scarafile, who has spearheaded this ministry since St. Mary’s became involved in 2010. “But together we can change that.”

Parishioners are encouraged to donate gift cards purchased from local supermarkets like Stop & Shop and Shaw’s ($25 increments are best) or simply make a financial donation.

“Last year, we assisted 330 families, but with the cost of food skyrocketing, we anticipate this year that the need will be greater and that our impact may be less if we do not get enough support,” explained Walden Scarafile. “Luckily, we received a generous $10,000 major grant from the Yawkey Foundation to kick off this year’s program, but we need much more and appreciate all donations, regardless of size.”

St. Mary’s parishioners and friends have been very generous in their giving over the years, she added. “Let’s keep the tradition strong by helping to make this a joyful Thanksgiving for everyone in our community.”

Turkeys and gift cards will be distributed to families on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the CAC office in Hyannis.

Bring your purchased gift cards or financial donations to the Parish office and place them in the marked collection folder on the table.
